You Might Be A Blogger If...

These days everybody has a blog, but does having a blog make you a blogger?

Back in the 90's, anybody who was anybody had a pager. In 2010, having a blog must be the cool thing to do. These days it seems like everybody wants to start a blog for the sole-purpose of making money. From potty-training to fixing cars, blogs on just about every topic are springing up all over the world wide web.
But while the blogosphere is getting more and more polluted with blogs, only a fraction of the people setting them up, will make any money at all. What this means is, a large percentage of the people who start a blog to make money, will most likely abandoned it after a couple of months, without making a dime.

Everyone needs to realize, the days are long gone when you could start a blog about "How To Make Money Blogging" and be just one out of a handful on the topic. Nowadays, your blog would be more like one in a million handfuls in that particular niche.

Of coarse there is absolutely nothing wrong with being one in a million, at least that's what my mother always told me. But when it comes to blogging those aren't the best numbers to be playing with.

This is something that people just don't understand. They hear about all of the successful bloggers out there that make a full-time income with their blogs, and they think... how hard can it actually be. Well, it's not as easy as some might think. Trust me, I know.

By the time I made my first dollar blogging, I had already been at it for 3 months and it was anything but steady after that. As of today, I have been blogging for about 2 years now, and even though I'm not making six-figures a year, yet, I enjoy it just as much now as I ever did.

But I consider myself a blogger. See I think that there is a big difference between a blogger and a person that has a blog. And if right now you're sitting there unsure about which category you fit into, read the 2 lists below to see which one best describes you.

How do you know if you're a blogger, well -

You might be a blogger if...
  1. If writing for your blog feels more like a hobby than it does work, you are most likely a blogger.

  2. If the content that you post is original and not stolen from another blog, you might be a blogger.

  3. If you have passion for the topic you are writing about, you are probably a blogger.

  4. If you are posting to your blog at least 3 times a week, you might be a blogger.

  5. If you write for your readers and not for the search engines, yep you guessed it, you're probably a blogger.

Now if these 5 things more or less describe you, congratulations, you fit the description of a blogger. On the other hand, if the list above doesn't sound like you at all, you might want to check out the next 5 descriptions.

You're just one more person with a blog if...

  1. If you have a blog because you thought it would make you popular with the ladies... You should try to get out more, and you're probably just another person with a blog.

  2. If you have a blog because the "get rich quick scheme" that you purchased told you to start one... I hate to tell you this, but you wasted your money and you're just one more sucker with a blog.

  3. If you have a blog to bully and make fun of kids at your high school... You're probably not a very good person and you're just another teen with a blog.

  4. If you started a blog just so you could tell people that you're a blogger... Stop it, because you're just another person with a blog.

  5. If you started blogging because you thought it would be an easy way to make money online... You were dead wrong, and you're just one more person with a blog.

Now, if you find that this second list better describes your situation, congratulations, you own a blog...

But you are probably not a blogger.

Don't get me wrong, there are many people out there that started blogging for all of the wrong reasons and are now successful full-time bloggers. I personally started blogging as a way to drive traffic to my websites, which I used to sell affiliate products.
However, after I got started I soon realized that I had a strong passion for blogging. I now have 2 main blogs, i-Blogger and HCG Diet 411, that I focus all of my energy into because I enjoy it.

You are more likely to succeed at what you are doing, if you enjoy doing it. No matter what it is. If you have a 9 to 5 job that you absolutely hate, you're either going to quit or just work hard enough to not get fired.

Same thing goes for blogging, if you can't stand doing it, you probably won't last. If you do want to start blogging, try to pick a topic that you have an interest in, don't just start writing about something because you think it's a hot niche at the time.

Try to understand, just because you might not be the pioneer of a certain topic that you want to write about, doesn't mean that you can't have a successful blog. If you truly have passion for something, blog about it. Who knows, you might do it better than anyone else out there.

Remember, try to be creative, don't just do what everyone else is doing. This is what can help define you as an individual blogger. Otherwise you might be...

Just one more person with a blog!

So would you say that you're a blogger or just another person who owns a blog?
